M7 Bayonet with M8A1 Scabbard

M7 Bayonet with M8A1 Scabbard

The M7 bayonet is the bayonet issued with the M16 assault rifle which was adopted in 1964. Although the M7 is based off of the M3 fighting knife, it continues to be issued today. The M7 bayonet and M8A1 scabbard set is used from 1964 to 1970. The M7 Bayonet was partially replaced by the M9 Bayonet in US Army service in 1986 and by the OKC-3S in the US Marine Corps in 2002. Despite it’s old design and with new bayonets available, the US Army, Navy and Airforce continue to issue M7 bayonets.
