The M4 Bayonet was designed after the M3 fighting knife and was a solution for adding a bayonet the the M1 and M2 Carbines. The M4 bayonet was issued with an M8 or M8A1 scabbard. This bayonet and scabbard set was used from 1945 until the 1970s when the M1 and M2 Carbine became less common.
