Facts: The AN-M8 Pyrotechnic Flare Pistol was a flare gun issued to Army air crew aboard bombers during the Second World War (1939-1945) as well as some years after. The lugs around the end of the barrel are intended to mount the pistol to the M1 flare gun mount on the inside of an aircraft, but it can be detached and used as a standalone flare gun. It is a single shot, break action, hammer fired flare gun.
