Facts: Developed in 1942, the M1903A3 updated the M1903, most notably by replacing the barrel mounted notched rear sight with a receiver mounted aperture peep sight similar to that on the M1917 Enfield. The M1903 and M1903A3 were issued along side the M1 Garand, but primarily as a Grenadier’s rifle. Other forces such as the Brazilian Expeditionary Force, Free French Forces and French Resistance used the 1903 during WWII. After WWII, the rifles continued to see service with South Korean Marines in the Korean War and with the French in Indochina.
